Another setback for Dostana

Dharma Productions paid Rs 3 crore to Pritish Nandy Communications in an out-of-court settlement. PNC filed a case against Karan Johar’s home production for using one of their tracks for Dostana.

A industry source reveals, “Tarun had a fallout with Karan a few years ago, and he approached PNC to do a film with them. He signed a contract and even recorded two songs with Vishal-Shekhar for the film. For some reason, the film didn’t take off. Meanwhile, Tarun and Karan buried their differences and he really liked one of the tracks Kuch Kum he worked on for the previous film, and used the same for his official directorial debut Dostana.

Just a few days before the movie is about to be released PNC sent a legal notice to Dharma Productions suing them for using a song that was recorded for their film. PNC threatened to stop the release of the film. Karan had no option but to pay PNC and safeguard his movie and its reputation.” In an out-of-court settlement, Johar paid Nandy Rs 3crore for the use of the song.

Karan Johar, the producer of the film says, “The matter is between PNC and Vishal-Shekhar. But as of now the way things stand, we at Dharma Productions completely own the song.”
